Ben Phiri cleared of Corruption Allegations

The Democratic Progressive Party member of Parliament for Thyolo Central Constituency, Ben Phiri has been cleared of corruption allegations levelled against him by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Phiri who was accused of selling Blantyre City Car was also being investigated on allegations that he solicited money from business tycoon, Faisal Aboo to facilitate the sale of Land that was belonging to the Malawi Railway.

ACB Director General Martha Chizuma last month confirmed that the file was closed after failing to establish any evidence on the matter.

However, Ben Phiri was not aware of the investigations that were being conducted against him.

On December 13 last year, High Court granted Ben Phiri bail after being arrested on allegations that he pocketed money amounting to K262 million from the Ministry of Gender.
