30 Awarded Sports Management and Administration Certificates
A week long Sports Management and Administration course which ended on Saturday has seen 30 participants from different sports disciplines in the north awarded certificates.
The training was organized by the Northern Region Sports development office and drew members from football, basketball, volleyball, boxing and netball, Athletic and others including youth football and Malawi Schools Sports Association (MASSA).
Speaking after the certificates presentation one of the Northern Region Education managers who was the guest at the event Jennings Kaira said poor planning and lack of knowledge by some sports administrators have been cited as some of the key challenges that continue to negatively affect sports development in the country.
John Kaoche, a Lecturer in Sports Management at Mzuzu University also made the observation in at the training.
In his remarks, Sports and Recreation Development Officer at the Malawi National Council of Sports, Gracian Mkandawire, said his office organized the workshop inorder to build the capacity of administrators of different sports codes within the region who generally had gaps in knowledge and skills in Sports administration.
Meanwhile Moyale Barracks Commanding Officer Lt Col Thokozani Andrew Chazema who was one of the guest of honor said as a unit they are people involved sports all the time so the training will help them
“We are more interested with this training because those who attended the the training will also share to others and on top of that they will manage their respective teams, so it is a good course to us as organisation, that’s why we sent more representatives to this training, we are much committed by giving them time to train and materials like uniforms and others,” said Chazema.
