Step daughter Defiler get 14 years in Chitipa

The Chitipa First Grade Magistrate’s Court has on Friday July 8, 2022 convicted and sentenced Thomas Nyondo, 32, to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling and impregnating a 12- year -old step daughter.

The Court heard through State Prosecutor Sub Inspector Anock Fumbo that on July 1, 2022, the convict defiled his step daughter at his house while his wife was out to Lufita market in the district.

Fumbo further told the court that the convict enticed the victim with K300 and slept her .

After three days the victim started feeling pain inside her private parts. This prompted her to openly narrate the whole ordeal to her grandmother. It was discovered that the convict has been regularly sleeping with the victim.

The victim was refered to Chitipa District Hospital where it was confirmed that she was defiled and was four months pregnant.

Appearing before court, Nyondo pleaded guilty to the charge levelled against him.

In mitigation,the convict asked for court’s leniency saying that he was a first offender, he has heart problems and that he admitted the case.

In his submission, Fumbo prayed for a meaningful sentence saying that the offence committed was a felony which attracts a life imprisonment sentence and that being a step father, he has a responsibility to protect the child.

When passing the sentence, Magistrate Billy Ngosi concurred with the State and sentenced the convict to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour.

Thomas Nyondo hails from Namasasa Village in the Area of Traditional Authority Mwaulambia in Chitipa District.
