Magombo earns praise from Pasuwa
The Nyasa Big Bullets talented midfielder, Thomson Magombo who was promoted from the Enos Chatama’s reserve team has reaped a Praise from his mentor, Kalisto Pasuwa.
The Zimbabwean tactician voiced his affection on the youngster after the game that the People’s team played against Silver Strikers on Saturday afternoon at Bingu National Stadium. The game was organised by the Nzika Foundation to raise funds for needy public university students.
In absence of regular players such as Chimwemwe Idana, Blessings Mpokera, Ernest Petro, Babatunde Adepoju, Kesten Simbi, Precius Sambani, Gomezgani Chirwa, among others, Coach Kalisto Pasuwa had to give chance to the fringe players and youngstars to play the game.
Thomson Magombo who was promoted alongside Patrick Mwaungulu, Kesten Simbi, and Yankho Singo earlier this, was deployed as an attacking midfielder and was playing alongside experienced Henry Kabitchi and Righteous Banda.
Other players given the chance were Ghanaian centre half, Isaac Badu, Alick Lungu, Anthony Mfune.
So too with Silver Strikers, in absence of Zebron Kalima, Nixon Mwase, Mike Robert, Chawanangwa Kaonga, Yobe featured fringe players and young players like Chinsisi Maonga, Tathedwa Willard, Chisomo Mpachika just to mention a few.
Despite creating many chances during the game, both teams failed to score but both Coaches were satisfied with the performance of their charges.
However, Kalisto Pasuwa was quick to heap his praise the 17-year-old midfielder saying he has a great talent.
Pasuwa explains, “Am happy with the young stars especially Thomson Magombo who was playing as an attacking midfielder. He was very comfortable with the ball and also he attacks spaces. If he sees space he goes behind the defence, trying to have an advantage in our attacking prowess.”
Pasuwa said as they are preparing for the second round of the tnm Super League, more training games are needed to sharpen his players.
“We tried to give players chance to play and see how they can fare in such games. Most of the fringe players who were not playing regularly we thought they should recover before the second round starts. The second round will be more than a season just because we will play more than 30 games. “
Pasuwa further said all the players that he featured today showed that they are eager to have place in the first eleven but was quick to complain about Hassan Kajoke’s performance.
He said, “We are playing Champions league, we thought that all the players deserve a chance to play and I think three quarter of them have shown that they can replace anyone who may pick injury along the way.
“Am most worried about the performance of Hassan Kajoke. He has been one of the most important players. He was a top scorer. However, so far the performance has not been that good. He needs to do more for him to get chance to play. We have seen the young stars are coming in and they are doing very well.”
Silver Strikers interim coach Macdonald Yobe said it was a good game.
Yobe said, “We need to beef up our squad that’s why we have given them a chance to play. All the young players have shown that they can play.”
