Kaliati Rolls out E-Payment for Social Cash Transfer
Minister of Gender and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati has launched Electronic-Payment for Social Cash Transfer in Nkhotakota. Through the initiative,the beneficiaries of the program will be getting their monthly allocation through TNM Mpamba.
Kaliati has since expressed hope that the E-Payment method will address challenges which authorities used to face with the previous cash disbursement method.
Since 2018, over 7 thousand people in Nkhotakota have been benefitting from the program which is aimed at empowering ultra-poor households.
In her remarks she said “We will continue seeking for more help, and let me announce that by November 2022, we will increase number of beneficiaries with 15 per cent.
She urged the recipients to “Make good use of these resources government with assistance from development partners is giving you to turn things around, and it is possible,” the minister appealed.
In Nkhotakota over 7 thousand beneficiaries have been registered, out of four hundred thousand total population of the district.
Executive Director for National Local Governance Finance Committee (NLGFC) Dr. Kondwani Santhe, said the institution is very committed to undertake the services to support the livelihoods.
“We want to make sure that these beneficiaries receive the money in time and put it to proper use. The coming in of TNM Mpamba payment aims at meeting that goal,” he said.
Representing TNM Mpamba, General Manager, Mr Maleck Kaziputa, said the new initiative will be secure, and convenient to beneficiaries as they can receive anytime while doing other things to uplift themselves. “Addded to that, the money will be secured,” he said.
With funding from the World Bank the program is assisting scores of ultra-poor people across the country.
UNICEF, World Food Program, various officials and other senior government dignitaries graced this occasion.
