Lusaka giants to sign Silver Strikers’ Star
The Lusaka-based Football Club, Zanaco pp 00has shown interest to sign Flames and Silver Strikers Full back Mark Fodya on a permanent deal.
Marky Fodya a brother to Nyasa Big Bullets defender Yamikani Fodya, has a running contract with Silver Strikers up to 2024 and it is reported that the two teams have already agreed on a fee that is beneficial to both sides.
A well-placed source told Daily Times that the Central Bankers are ready to cash in for Mark Fodya.
“It is almost a done deal,” the source told Times. “The two clubs have already agreed on the deal in principle. It is a good deal for Player, Silver and Zanaco,” He added.
Silver Strikers Chief Executive Officer, Thokozani Chimbali said he will only put his mouth on the matter when there is something tangible.
It is reported that the 7-time Zambian Champions approached Silver on recommendation from suspended coach Daniel Kabwe, who won two league titles with the Zambian Bankers.
Fodya, who can play as a left back or left winger, joined Silver from Peter Mponda’s Blantyre-based Wizards FC in 2016.
Yamikani Fodya missed the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ethiopia and Guinea due to injury and also the ongoing 2022 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cupin Durban, South Africa.
If Fodya signs for Zanaco, he would become the third Malawian to play in Zambia’s MTN Super League after Luka Milanzie and Dalitso Sailesi.
Milanzie played for Zesco while on loan from Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe whereas Sailesi was at Lusaka Dynamos.
Zanaco Football Club was formed in 1978 as a social team by management trainees of Zambia National Commercial Bank. The team was launched at LOTUS INN in Lusaka. The founding members were Lloyd Choongo, Ben Banda, Nathan Lupupa and John Kasengele.
Starting from the 1980s, Zanaco started growing steadily from a mere social club to becoming one of the most successful and decorated club in Zambian football history.
Over the years the Sunset Stadium-based team has won 7 Super League trophies, 4 Charity Shields, 1 Coca-Cola Cup, 1 Mosi Cup and 3 BP Cups.
Zanaco are the only team outside of Zambia’s Copperbelt Province to have not only won but also defended the Super League Trophy.
