Banda knockout Chazama to lift lightweight belt

Yohane wrote himself into the Malawian sporting history books when he defeated Salimu “the destroyer” Chazama on Sunday night at M1 Centre Point to become the new lightweight belt champion of Malawi for the second time in his history of boxing.

Contrary to many boxing fans anticipation, Chazama who had previously played International belts, needed hard stabs at the same time failed to guard himself as the Soldier, Yohane had heavy stabs as he was desiring to lift the belt the MDF camp.

It was a knockout bout and Chazama couldn’t endure heavy blows fromYohane up to 12th round as he was put on the flow twice in the 11th round.

Yohane Banda was very happy with victory.

“Am very happy for the victory. I put my effort and my heart on the fight. It was a good fight and Chazama gave me a good fight. Am looking forward to do more in future,” said Yohane.

His counterpart, Salima Chazama said he underrated his opponent.

“It was a good fight, I accept the defeat. I had a good turn but I was underrating him. Congratulations to him for the victory,” said Chazama.

Lonzo Zimba President of the Boxing Association of Malawi said everything went well.

“It was a good fight because people who came to watch it are going home while happy. All the boys prepared well for the fight.

” No one should challenge Yohane within the next 3 months according to the rules of boxing,” said Lonzo.

In other fights, Yobe Kamnyonya outclassed Clifford Antafu via points while at B square in Lumbadzi, Gray “knockout” Chimkwapulo won to Laston Kaira via Points.
