The Malawi Congress Party, MCP has denied the agreement of the 9-party Tonse Alliance claimed by the President of the United Transformation Movement Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima yesterday during a Nation Press briefing in Lilongwe.

Dr Chilima revealed that MCP and UTM agreed to share the terms in their 10-year period governance.

Chilima said, “We agreed during the formation of their alliance with Malawi Congress Party, MCP that there will be equal partners and that President Lazarus Chakwera and I will support each other in our 10-year agreement for each of us to lead one term.”

Reacting to the Press, Party officials such as secretary general Eisenhower Mkaka, Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda and Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo called for a press in Lilongwe on the same day, Friday where the General Secretary of the party, Eisenhowe Mkaka said MCP doesn’t don’t have any documents supporting Chilima’s claim.

Mkaka said, “From where we stand, the Malawi Congress Party does not have, in its possession, any document that stipulates or points that to the sharing terms between Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima.

“In any case, as a law abiding party, we will comply with the dictates of the supreme laws of the land which is our republican constitution.”

The secretary general also hinted that they will engage all Tonse Alliance partners to ensure that matters raised by the Vice-President earlier in the day are tabled at their next meeting.

Mkaka said, “It is our hope that during that meeting a common position on the resolutions reached collectively will be communicated to the public in the interest of advancing transparency, respecting the spirit of shared responsibility in which the Tonse Alliance was formed and upholding our promise to keep the alliance focused on serving Malawians without regard to political interests.”

However, according to the document that Malawi Guardian has seen, the agreement between the two parties was signed and the former president of the Republic, Dr Joyce Banda was the witness and her signature appears on the document.
