Three die in Rumphi road accident

Three people have died after being involving in a road accident at Mphora bend number 13 at Hewe in Rumphi District.
The three have been identified as; Mr Kenani Mkandawire, 60, Rose Mkandawire, 37 and Dorothy Chavula 35 all from Vimba Village under Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba District.
It is reported that Mr. Vitumbiko Nkosi, 42, of Kajiso Shaba Village under Traditional Authority Mtwalo was driving unregistered motor vehicle, Tata Lorry and was coming from Mzuzu heading Hewe with 30 passengers on board who were going to attend a funeral ceremony.
Upon arrival at the said place whilst descending a slope at the same time negotiating a left bend, he lost control of the motor vehicle due to overspeeding.
Immediately, the motor vehicle went offside the road where he hit the road embarkment before swerving to the extreme nearside where he hit a number of trees and stopped.
Due to the impact, the said passengers sustained multiple body fractures, internal injuries and severe head injuries.
They were pronounced dead upon arrival at Rumphi District Hospital.
The driver and other three passengers have been seriously injured while the other passengers escaped with minor injuries. They are all receiving treatment at Rumphi District Hospital.
The motor vehicle got extensively damaged.
Police is advising all road users to always follow road regulations and refrain from using unregistered motor vehicles in order to avoid similar incidents.
