Malawi Beach Soccer to face Tanzania in Afcon qualifiers

Malawi Beach Soccer National Team will face neighbours, Tanzania Beach Soccer National Team in Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Confederation of African Football, CAF on Friday held a draw in Maputo, Mozambique where the finals of the tournament will be played from 21 to 30 October 2022.

Reacting to the draw, General Secretary Beach Soccer Association of Malawi, Wakisa Mwambetania described the draw as fair.

“Tanzania are not a tough team, we just need thorough preparations for the game. We have technical experts who are good at selecting players. We have capable players who can beat Tanzania and take us through the next round and we are sure that we will be at Afcon Finals.”

Beach Soccer National Team, currently has no coach but the general secretary says that’s not the case as they will be discussing the matter after their fundraising events.

Stereo Gondwe who was the coach for the team, left the vacancy back in 2019 when he was sent to DRC for a government assignment.

The qualifying match scheduled for the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations Mozambique 2022 was revealed on Friday during the draw held.

The 14 engaged nations will lock horns to determine the seven countries that will join hosts Mozambique in the finals. 

The qualifying campaign will be played on a home and away basis on the following dates: 

The First Legs are expected to take place from  22 to 24 July  with return Legs being scheduled to be played from 05 to 07 August 

Titleholders Senegal will face Cameroon with the first leg taking place in Cameroon before a return leg in Senegal. 

After missing the last edition, Nigeria will be eager to make their comeback to the tournament. They will play Libya.

Morocco, another powerhouse in beach soccer in Africa, will play Côte d’Ivoire.
