Three die in Chitipa road accident
Three people have died in a road accident after the motor vehicle they were traveling in overturned at Chatu area along Misuku-Kapoka earth road on Monday afternoon in Chitipa.
The three have been identified as Fraha Chiona, 36 of Ishalikira Village, Tamiwe Mkumbwa, 35 of Mwamukumbwa Village, both from
Traditional Authority Mwaulambia and Asayire Chizumira, 58 of Makeye Village in Traditional Authority Mwenemisuku, all from Chitipa District.
The accident involved a motor vehicle Toyota Hilux Double Cabin registration number DZ 64 which was being driven by Tayani Chiona aged 46.
On this fateful day, the driver was coming from Chilashe Village heading Kapoka direction with 17 passengers on board where they had gone to attend a funeral ceremony.
Upon arrival at Chatu area while descending, the driver failed to negotiate a curve due to excessive speeding as a result the motor vehicle went to the extreme nearside of the road where it overturned twice .
Due to impact, passengers sustained different degrees of head injuries and fractures and three were prounounced dead upon arrival at Chitipa District Hospital.
The police in the district advise road users to always adhere to all rules and regulations to avoid accidents.
