Egyptian giants Al Ahly have communicated their decision to end their relationship with coach Pitso Mosimane and his technical team.

The club released a statement on Monday following a meeting with the coach on Sunday, explaining that a request was lodged before the board by Mosimane, who expressed his wish to be relieved of his duties.

“Al Ahly and Pitso Mosimane reached an agreement to part ways. Mahmoud El Khatib, the club’s president, held a meeting with Yassin Mansour, the chairman of Al Ahly Football Company, Hossam Ghaly, the club’s board member, and the Planning Committee members, to discuss Mosimane’s future with the club,” read the Red Devils’ statement.

“During the meeting, they all decided that he should continue his mission with Al Ahly as a result of the achievements he managed to accomplish during the previous period.

“However, during the meeting that was previously held, Mosimane requested to leave and that he is satisfied with the achievements he managed to accomplish with the club.

“Later on, Mosimane’s decision was discussed and it was decided to approve his request to part ways with the club and to thank him for the achievements that he accomplished with the club.”

Overall, Mosimane has lifted five trophies with the Cairo giants, two CAFCLs, two CAF Super Cups and one Egyptian Cup. Mosimane leaves Al Ahly with the club sitting in third place on the log, having four games in hand over Zamalek, who have collected seven points more.

Despite all his on-field success, Mosimane – the first African coach from outside of Egypt to coach Al Ahly – found himself continuously in the cross fire by Al Ahly legends and local media.

He leaves the club after 97 games in charge, only losing 10 and with an average points tally of 2.24 per game
