Over 600 cases of Sexually Transmitted Infections-STI’s have been recorded at the Mzimba District Hospital during from January to March this year.
Mzimba South STI’s Coordinator, Dan Kwacha says the figure is higher as the last quarter of 2021 had 560 cases.
Kwacha says more than half of those to who tested positive are youths aged below 35 and are mostly effected with syphilis.
Meanwhile, Executive Director for Mzimba Youth Organization Moses Nkhana attributes the situation to lack of recreation centres in the district for knowledge on sexual reproductive health services.
Most of the cases are people from South Africa who came and visit their respective homes and families.
