Zamba suspends Government MDAs meetings

The newly appointed Secretary to the President and Cabinet, (SPC) Collen Zamba has has put external meetings for government Ministries, Depertments and Agencies (MDAs) in abeyant state until further notice as one way of stopping wastage of public resources through the culture of allowances.
Experts who have since called on President Lazarus Chakwera to lead by example by suspending his travels, have heaped kudos on Zamba for the action as a new broom that sweeps clean.
Zamba, speaking in Lilingwe on Wednesday after meeting Principal Secretaries, said following the measures Dr. Chakwera announced last week, all public office meetings must be in abeyant.
She said, “One of the important aspects of Civil Service is optimal use of human and financial resources. So, we have issued circulars on the new measures, explaining them to the public secretariates and the President announced, more will be coming.
” We have immediately suspended holding of meetings outside duty stations.”
Zamba added that the Commonwealth funded meeting of Public Secretatriates have been shufted to Lilongwe from Salima.
She said the main objective of the newly introduced measures is to tame watage of resources because people in the public sector hugely use activities to benefit financially.
Dr Lazarus Chakwera appointed Zamba as SPC on May 22, 2022 after sacking Zanga Zanga Chikhosi.
Both Secretary to Treasury, MacDonald Mafuta Mwale and Accountability and Transparency executive Director, Willy Kambwandira all welcomed the development.
