Government still in dilemma on Passport contractor deal
Homeland security and other relevant authorities are still reviewing processes regarding the selection of a new contractor to produce the country’s passport books.
Report says that the authorities are yet to source a new electronic passports supplier following termination of a 60.8 million US dollar contract with TechnoBrain Global last December.
Under the 2019 contract, TechnoBrain was supposed to supply 800 000 e-passports but the deal later collapsed amid allegations of corruption.
While acknowledging that its is taking a long time, Spokesperson for the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services, Wellington Chiponde pleads with the public to understand that such procurement process need thorough analysis.
Meanwhile, the Department is only issuing passports to those with emergencies.
