Chichiri Prisoner escapee arrested in Chikwawa in

- Police in Chikwawa have, on June 5, arrested the man identified as Charles Charlie who escaped from Chichiri Prison, Blantyre.
Chikwawa Police station spokesperson Dickson Matemba told The Malawi Guardian that Charles Charlie was found guilty of robbery and was sentenced to imprisonment at Chichiri Prison. He bolted from the aforementioned prison on January 16, 2022.
According to Matemba, the escapee was caught early in the morning of 5th June, 2022 at Dzenje Village, Traditional Authority Nkumaniza near Mozambique boarder.
Matemba added that Charlie is expected to appear before the court for escaping from the lawful custody which is contrary to section 115 of the penal code.
Charles Charlie is a 25-year old man born and raised in Kambelengende Village, Traditional Authority Tengani in Nsanje District.
