Chiefs in Nsanje wants to meet Chakwera
Traditional Authorities in Nsanje have expressed their reluctance to meet the President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr Lazarus Chakwera at the state House.
According to Chiefs, the aim is to applause Dr Chakwera for the developmental projects that are happening in the district.
Traditional Authority Malemia told Malawi Guardian on Friday that meeting the President is every Chief’s wish in Nsanje.
“We would like to meet the President at the Kamuzu Palace. We want to thank him for whatever he is doing for us in Nsanje,” said Chief Malemia.
Other chiefs in the District, Traditional Authority Chimombo, Tengani also made the same call some months ago.
On May 20, the government of Malawi handed over the rehabilitation, upgrading and reconstruction of Marka-Bangula Railway Project to Chinese contractor, China Railway Bureau among other developmental projects that are taking place in Nsanje.
The 72-kilometer railway construction project, is expected to start this June with a feasibility study and is expected to end in 18 months.
Mozambique has already constructed its part from Marka to the port of Beira, and Malawi after the completion of its line from Marka to Bangula later, will ensure a smooth link of transporting goods among countries in the Sadc region and beyond.
Construction of passable Road that connects Nsanje Boma and Marka Boarder is also another developmental project happening in the district.
