Phwezi leaders pledges to support Police in combating crime

Community leaders from Phwezi area in Rumphi District have vowed to work with police in an attempt to combat crime within their policing area.

The assurance was made on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Phwezi Trading Centre during an interface meeting with the community.

Speaking during the meeting, Group Village Headman Kajehele expressed his utmost appreciation towards the role police play in fighting crime in the district and in particular Phwezi area.

He added that police in conjunction with community policing have made success strides in ensuring security on his area as evidenced with the recovery of 25 bicycles and 4 goats which were stolen in the past months.

“We are very thankful for the work police is doing” said Kajehele.

He further urged fellow traditional leaders to provide necessary support to police to end criminality in their areas. He also reminded audience about thier responsibility to report to police any suspicion so as to create a safe and secure district together.

Commenting, Station Executive Committee Chairperson Stanford Longwe, hailed police for organizing the meeting which he said has energized community leaders to take security issues seriously and share their inputs towards reduction of crime.

Longwe added that involving community leaders is very important in ensuring enhanced security where peace and order reigns. On the same reminding people of their responsibility will hell them refrain from taking the law into thier hands.

Speaking on behalf of Rumphi Police Station, Superintendent Lester Chananga assured community members of police relentless efforts in combating crime.

He added that police is enjoying working with communities and urged them to continue sharing security information with them for a better and secure area.
