NGO donates sporting accessories to Nyungwe health center
Kachila Youth Initiative (KAYI) has donated assorted playing materials to Teen Clubs at Nyungwe Health Centre in Karonga to support Anti-Retroviral Therapy services at the facility.
The accessories which include footballs, Bawo Boards and Playing Cards among others are valued at about MK120,000.
In an interview following the donation KAYI executive Director William Ngwira, said they thought of donating to the health center to support ART services in a bid to increase numbers of youths at the teen clubs.
Adding that having sporting activities to do when attending teen clubs for youths who are on ART treatment is very attractive in improving the numbers of youngsters patronizing such gatherings hence the donation.
“We know there are a number of teens who shun away from going to seek ART services due to among others, myths and stigma thus we thought of donating the assorted items in order to boost the number of teens at this club at the facility.” He explained.
One of the beneficiaries Maria Kabundi, said the donation of the sporting accessories has provided them with an incentive and motivation to patronize the teen clubs and as well as it will help them get physically fit and interact with other youths.
On his part health facility in charge at Nyungwe Russell Kabaghe, expressed gratitude to the organization for donating the accessories saying the assistance is timely considering the challenges at the facility.
“As a hospital we are supposed to procure such items for the teens but we are unable to do so due to resource constraints hence we are thankful to KAYI for their donation to our youths.” Kabaghe said.
Kachila Youth Initiative (KAYI) with financial support from President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is running a 12month (October 2021 to September 2022) project on Pankyene community Empowerment project on HIV and AIDS project set squarely in the context of ensuring that communities in STA Mwilang’ombe are reached with appropriate behavior change messages on HIV Prevention, Treatment and care.
